On 5 June 2025, the NDB Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) led a panel at the gLocal Evaluation Week – one of the largest monitoring and evaluation (M&E) knowledge-sharing events in the world.

The title of the session was Evaluation as a Catalyst for Climate Innovation: Lessons from Climate-Smart Infrastructure Projects Financed by Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) – to spotlight how rigorous, evidence-based evaluations conducted by MDB’s are shaping the design, delivery and long-term sustainability of climate-smart infrastructure and renewable energy investments. Amongst other things in the wide-ranging discussion, the panel highlighted how collaboration between MDBs is vital to accelerate climate innovation at scale and speed, and to remember that evaluation is not just about accountability, but is also a strategic enabler that informs climate policy and guides institutional decisions.

The panel consisted of experts from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), African Development Bank (AfDB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as from IEO.

The event was attended by over 99 participants. The recording of the event is available here.
